A thought came over me as I was partaking of my Taco Tuesday tasty treats. Why is it we have a Taco Tuesday? Other than the fact that we are addicted to fast food and foods that you can cook quickly. Maybe it is the spice factor?
And, another thought, in a perfect world, tacos would have no calories at all so that we could indulge in the taste explosion whenever we wanted to. Am I right? After all, shouldn’t we eat what makes us happy?
But reality is that all things delicious more than likely have some sort of calories attached to them that reminds us we must partake in moderation. So I thought I would come up with some Taco Tuesday tips that help to keep us trim and yet allow us to indulge every once in a while.
Taco Tuesday Tips for Trying to Keep Trim
* Make big batches of lean ground beef browned with your favorite taco seasoning. Freeze it or store it in the fridge for impromptu snacks or quick meals when you need a little spice.
* Chicken is another favorite for taco lovers. Throw some in the saucepan add in a can of tomato sauce, and your favorite Mexican spices like cumin, garlic, and chili powder, then shred it out whenever you need a kick.
* Always keep several packages of low-carb tortillas in the freezer. They come in handy for quick little snacks like a low-carb cheese quesadilla or for that meat you’ve been cooking. I love the corn tostadas too but I have to be careful with the carbs on that one.
* Remember that Tequila is a zero-carb beverage. It’s the mixers that will kill it. If you want to indulge, mix it with a little lime-flavored seltzer water, Sprite Zero, or make a low-carb margarita with lime juice, orange extract, low-carb sweetener, etc. Search recipes online. There are loads.
* Keep avocados around to bring a burst of flavor and a load of nutrition to your impromptu Taco Tuesday. Don’t forget Limes too! So Fresh!
* Always have lettuce, shredded cabbage, and low-carb shredded cheese on hand. They are perfect additions to your burrito or taco.
* Taco salad is super fast when you have all of these items in the house. Plus, I always keep a bottle of La Victoria Taco Sauce on hand because it is the perfect salad dressing anytime. Low sugar, low-carb, lots of spice.
* Don’t forget your favorite salsa. If you have a great recipe and keep tomatoes, onions, garlic, and jalapeños on hand, you can whip up a recipe in ten minutes or less.
These are just a few of the reasons why Taco Tuesday is such a necessity. But the good news is you can still indulge and keep yourself trim.
