In this day and age it’s hard not to get caught up in the frenzy of age defying and wrinkle free skin. It seems like every time I look for face creams, it gets harder and harder to find what’s right for me.
Today there’s a cream for absolutely everything. Wrinkle reduction, skin tightening, skin lightening, and so on. We can easily become addicted to having the youngest looking skin. After all, we know we certainly don’t want to look our age. And let’s not even talk about the cost.
But I started looking back at what our grandmothers and mothers used on their face. Back then it was simple and easy to take care of their skin. Cold cream to take off make up and a simple moisturizer to help with dry skin.
Going Old School with Face Creams for Mature Skin
So I decided to toss all of the extra age defying additives to see if it would make a difference to my skin. So two weeks ago I picked up this old-school jar of simple moisturizer.
What did I notice? The first thing I noticed is that this is a beautifully rich cream full of emollients that my face loves. It took a week or so of assorted breakouts for my face to adjust. But with a small amount, my skin is just as soft as it is with any of the other high-priced specialty face creams.
Face Cleanser too!
There’s another thing I did. I also started using a simple face cleanser and also went old school. Noxzema is one of the creams my mom used when I was a kid and I used when I was a teen. (She also loved Nivea face cream) It worked back then so I also grabbed a jar of that.
The trick with this product is to dampen your fingers just a little bit before applying. Then it will work more as a face cream instead of absorbing right into your skin like a lotion. Results – my face is clean and healthy.
For now I’m happy. My face is happy and that’s all that really matters in the long run. Plus, I’m saving a boatload of money.
What about you? What do you use on your face that is old school but does just as good as job?
