I am getting ready to take a long trip and one of the things that freaks me out a bit is how difficult it can be to find acceptable foods to eat when traveling. While eating low carb sounds easy, sometimes it is very difficult to find foods in the middle of no where that are not loaded with preservatives, sugars and other stuff I don’t want to eat.

While I do try and bring food with me, sometimes it is not enough. Plus, when traveling or just out and about running errands, sometimes we get caught without the proper foods. When that happens you can look to my low carb, high-protein snacks that you can eat on the go.

Check out high protein choices that you can find in convenience stores and the like.

I was in 7-Eleven the other day and they had little high-protein snack packs including cheeses and nuts along with a little salami or meat of some sort. It was a great idea and I thought it perfect for traveling and on the run.

I was impressed by the amount of low-carb, low-sugar products they had available. Great to know when you have forgotten your snacks or you are traveling and need to refill the snack bag!

While tempting, the bottled veggie juices and smoothie-type items are usually very high in sugar so make sure that you check the label on those before purchasing.

Another thing to note. Stay away from energy drinks and “vitamin” type waters. These are usually loaded in additional ingredients and sugars aka carbs, that you don’t want. Choose plain tea or water.

Summer is a high travel time so be prepared with a list like this for times when you need food and have few choices except for the convenience store or truck stop.
