One of the toughest things about going low carb is having to give up certain items, especially things that we love, like pizza.
I don’t know about you but I love pizza. It’s the perfect combination of flavors and it is so good! Luckily, we can replicate that flavor a lot of times. Kind of like the cheesy pepperoni roll ups that I did the other day.
Even if we indulge and have that pizza that we’re craving, we still feel guilty about the carbs. Sad really. The question is, should we feel guilty about the carbs in cauliflower pizza?
Carbs in Cauliflower Pizza
One type of carbs that I do not feel guilty about is veggie carbs. While I don’t overindulge in carbs from natural foods, I do pick and choose the carbs that I will eat.
Cauliflower happens to be one of those carbs that I will eat. Corn is not very often because it is higher in sugars, and therefore carbs, because of the way it is broken down in your body.
Which leads me to cauliflower pizza. Now the first time I heard about that I was totally absolutely not going to try it. I thought it sounded disgusting and I’m not that much in love with cauliflower.
But when the pizza cravings hit, I thought, let’s give it a shot and I went on the hunt for what I figured was the best cauliflower frozen pizza. I posted about this brand before.
Fast forward to today, and to me, it’s still the best cauliflower frozen pizza that is out there. So how can I incorporate this into a low-carb diet? The way that I normally choose to eat this is all by itself.
Reduce Your Glucose Spikes
I read somewhere that if you separate your fats and your carbs and eat them together at a meal, your body will process them differently. The same is true if you eat your fats and proteins separately.
So I’ve always had that stuck in my brain in terms of how you eat your foods can help your body process the food and reduce the glucose spikes. I have also read that if you eat veggies first, then proteins, then carbs lastly, you do not have as much as a glucose spike.
This particular pizza was half for dinner and half the next day. And yes, while it is loaded with carbs, it’s not all bad carbs. It also includes a good amount of protein, plus I added extra cheese, oregano, and garlic.
Don’t forget, our brains still need some carbs. Therefore even on a low-carb meal plan, I’m okay with my carbs coming from mainly vegetables, and a bit of rice flour they use.
Just saying. These are my thoughts, whether right or wrong, they seem to work for me.
