It can be so confusing to know what type of warm ups or cool downs you should be doing for your body during your fitness routines. I posted an article a few weeks ago on Warm Up Exercises Before Your Workout that you can check out. Following that, you also need to be doing your stretches too!
There are many that say stretching should be done before a workout, but with new research coming out, there is just as many people how say that stretching is for After the workout. Here is some reasons why…
Why Stretch After Workouts
When stretching before workouts, your body is tight and not as flexible as it should be prior to stretching. Therefore, your muscles and joints are at a higher risk of injury. Warming up first and then doing your workout before your stretches with protect your muscles. Plus you will see benefits from:
- Relieves Tight muscles
- Reduce your chance of injury
- Improves posture
- Improve your flexibility
- Increase nutrients to the muscles
- Improve range of motion
- Increased Muscle development
For me this makes more sense and as we age, your muscles and joints need all of the help they can get. Stretching will bring that blood flow to your muscles and help them recover from your work out.
Give it a try and see how much better you feel after your workout.
