The Widow by Fiona Barton: Review + Giveaway

Have you ever thought about getting into the head of a serial killer or a psychotic crazy person? Sometimes I think about what makes people tick and the author of this new novel must also have been thinking along those same lines when she decided to delve into story of a wife of a suspected child kidnapper. This suspenseful thriller has been taking the book circles by storm and I’m excited to bring you my thoughts on this new release that I was able to review.

For fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, an electrifying thriller that will take you into the dark spaces that exist between a husband and a wife.

When the police started asking questions, Jean Taylor turned into a different woman. One who enabled her and her husband to carry on, when more bad things began to happen…

But that woman’s husband died last week. And Jean doesn’t have to be her anymore.

There’s a lot Jean hasn’t said over the years about the crime her husband was suspected of committing. She was too busy being the perfect wife, standing by her man while living with the accusing glares and the anonymous harassment.

Now there’s no reason to stay quiet. There are people who want to hear her story. They want to know what it was like living with that man. She can tell them that there were secrets. There always are in a marriage.

The truth—that’s all anyone wants. But the one lesson Jean has learned in the last few years is that she can make people believe anything…

My Thoughts about The Widow

When it comes to a crime, most people often focus on the person who is suspected of doing the crime and not so much the family fallout and those that have to live with the suspect. This author has chosen to study and dive into the mind of the wife of a suspect. In this book we see the other side of the story – one that is often not told.

Twisting and a tad creepy, the story that Jean tells is a rambling path of her side of the story. Sometimes it is hard to tell is she is psychotic or just a manipulated woman who is told what to do from the time she met and married her husband.

To believe her or not? I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe she is just as guilty as her husband. Or maybe he really is innocent. You get glimpses of the man she stands by and the life they live together. Sheltered and hounded by the press, is she holding it together or really cracking under the pressure?

This is the tale of one woman and the effects of being married to a crime suspect. The author has crafted a top notch story that is engaging, twisted, and definitely a thrilling read not to be missed. Emotions run rampant in this suspense thriller and I am still not sure if I should feel sorry for Jean or cheer that she can be at peace eventually. You decide!

Check out The Widow and settle in for a mind numbing ride.
