  1. The entire recipe is about 665 calories, but the pot lasted me a week! Simple and delicious. Thanks for this recipe.

  2. This looks lovely. Looking forward to trying it! By “tomato sauce”, are you referring to a marinara? Or a can of crushed tomatoes? I’m sure either would work, but let me know if one is more effective for the soup’s consistency, if you can. Thank you!

    1. I use tomato sauce because I do not like chunky tomatoes. But by all means use a marinara or crushed tomatoes. Either would work wonderfully. Enjoy!

  3. I just stumbled on this recipe while looking up cabbage soup. It sounds wonderful and will be a perfect addition to my winter soup collection. I am confident that it will be delicious given that everything listed in the recipe is something that I love anyway. Thank you so much for sharing!

      1. Chris: Could you tell us a little more about the history of the soup.why you made it initially? How many people have tried it at your home? Are any of your children or relatives now making it? Have you altered the recipe in any way? Thanks for sharing. Kenzo

        1. The soup recipe was given to me by my friend whom I mentioned in the article. She was a long time ballerina and danced professionally for years with top dance companies. She is highly schooled on health and nutrition. This recipe has been in my household for at least 10-12 years, if not more. We make it on a regular basis and my whole family loves it. I have shared it with so many people, including through this post, and while simple, it is delicious, and filling. Wholesome, simple foods are the best in my book.

  4. Maybe I missed it but how many servings do you think this makes? I can’t tell how filling it might be if eaten alone.

    1. I estimate it will feed 4 adults as a main course, or 6 if it is served as a starter. It is a filling soup. Perfect with some warm bread or a side salad. Try it with Napa Cabbage instead of spinach for a quick taste change. So good! Hope you enjoy!

  5. Making this now and it smells delicious. I love the simplicity and. How healthy it is.

What kind of Italian seasoning do you use?

  6. What is a can of chicken/veggie?

    Chicken vegetable soup?
    Two more cans of vegetables?
    I’m confused haha

    1. Two 16 ounce cans of Chicken/veggie Broth or use bullion => is Broth or use bullion. You can choose either Chicken or Vegetable

  7. Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe. My tummy feels very satisfied. I chopped the spinach to make it easier to eat. This is definitely my new favourite soupπŸ˜€

    1. This serves 4-6 people. 163 Calories per serving calculated at 4 servings per pot. Less if you serve 6 people

      Hope you enjoy!

  8. I had almost a full bottle of V8 juice so I used that in place of the broth and added a Tbsp of better than bouillon. Probably changes the calorie count.

  9. I made it and added a bit of cauliflower rice that needed using. And chopped a very ripe avocado into the portion for today. It was delicious!

  10. Any suggestion for an alternative to tomatoes? My friend is allergic to tomato. But I just know she’d love this soup otherwise.

  11. Chris. Could someone use both bok choy & spinach or kale? I think I would like to mix it up for taste & texture

  12. Chris I would like to use bok choy with spinach like 1/2 & 1/2 or kale? Do u thunk that would work? Thinking different texture & maybe flavor
