Midnight Abduction by Nichole Severn: Review

Midnight Abduction by Nichole Severn

I was in the mood for some cop fiction this week so I picked up several books for review. They are a part of the same Tactical Team but written by different authors so you can read them individually.

This particular book is by an author I’ve never read before and I couldn’t wait to find out how this one is going to play along.

Coming up for publication this month, read on for my full review.

Midnight Abduction by Nichole Severn

Synopsis:

For the Tactical Crime Division, no case is left cold.

When Benning Reeves’s twins are kidnapped, the frantic father knows who can help: the Tactical Crime Division and Ana Ramirez. Even though Ana once shattered Benning’s heart, the special agent is the only one he can trust. But Ana is still tormented by the unresolved case that brought them together years before—a case somehow entangled with Benning’s children. It’s up to the TCD and Ana to discover why…before it’s too late.

Midnight Abduction by Nichole Severn Review

This book has a great theme and plot to it although I was a little bit nervous about choosing it because of the kids involved. I don’t usually read books involving children.

The twist on this one is that the FBI agent is female and she’s the one that is going back home to help solve a case. I love a strong female lead but I ended up with many mixed feelings as I was reading the story.

Without a doubt, there’s plenty of action and the “who done it” build up is nicely structured. My problem came mainly with believe-ability of the story.

Benning was completely in love with her and she upped and left. Because of his feelings, he wants to win her back. But in the middle trying to solve a kidnapping case they are dealing with feelings and passion. At one point I felt that the story was mainly about their romantic connection and the procedural part of the case is definitely took a backseat.

The story bounced a little too much for me. I was a little put off by the fact that she really didn’t do much to solve the case and definitely did not involve her team much at all. Ana was working hard at points as she did get her ass kicked and both Benning and Ana have a super human ability to stay alive.

There’s plenty of violence in this book. They were shot, beat up, knifed, shot, blown up, beat up… I can’t tell you how many times, but still kept on going, which was admirable since she was looking for a child and trying to solve the case.

On the plus side, the ending was a complete surprise. The HEA did occur but it seemed rather abrupt and I wanted a bit more in that wrap-up portion.

While Midnight Abduction was extremely entertaining and we definitely got our action, romance, and crime fiction, yay, I just had a hard time with the believable side of the story and some of the flow. However, Severn grabbed me with this one. Her talent for crime fiction and romantic suspense is top notch!

3 Stars!
