Anytime I get a chance to read a book set in Lake Country and about cabins or resorts, I’m on it. These location-based stories really touch me because of my upbringing. Throw in a delightful romance and some banter, and I’m all over it.
This upcoming release is a perfect example of a fun, delightful, and touching romance. Check out my thoughts below.

OVERVIEW:
Lainey Davis can’t wait for the day she’ll be able to escape her tiny Wisconsin town. But she’s not even close to covering her health insurance premiums and pricey migraine medication, let alone saving up enough to start over somewhere new. That is, until Lainey learns that through the archaic legal doctrine of adverse possession, she’s inadvertently squatted her way into owning a marvel of modern architecture.
But Lainey owns only the house. The surrounding property, a lakeside money pit the previous owner used as a front to deal illegal reptiles, has been willed to Elliot Hodges, a D.C. architect who wants to rent out the place to fellow architecture lovers. Their assets are tied together, but neither can move forward without the other.
Desperate, Elliot proposes an unconventional arrangement: marry him for health insurance, and in exchange, Lainey will allow him to buy her out. Win-win: Lainey will finally have a way out of town, and he’ll own the house designed by his idol. Married in name only and living together while fixing up the property, Lainey and Elliot find themselves unable to keep their hopes, dreams, or bedsheets from getting entwined. And as their connection grows, Lainey’s no longer sure what’s more terrifying: leaving Elliot behind or letting him in.
Married with Benefits by Ellie Palmer Review
I can’t help but fall in love with certain types of books. Lake setting, cabins, small towns, quirky people. You have that dialed in, I’m gonna love the story.
The concept is fun and a little bit different than what we normally see-instead of dating with benefits, we get married with benefits. What could go wrong?
This is the first story that I’ve read by this author, and she has nailed this sweet romcom, loading it with humor and heart. There is definitely some smoldering sexy heat going on, even though it is closed-door.
The fun of a marriage of convenience opens the uniqueness and creativity that pours from this author’s storytelling.
The characters are beautifully balanced, and I love their banter and blending. They’re messy, a little chaotic at times, but together they work seamlessly. And that slow-burn romance is right on.
For a delightful summery read or anytime read, Married with Benefits is a wonderful story to check out.
