Why Does Juicing Work to Improve Health

I have to admit I was very skeptical when my husband wanted to start juicing a year ago. I had been thinking about it; following some people on Facebook and groups that have been juicing, but I just wasn’t sure that it was going to work. However, being that I was miserable with the amount of weight that I was carrying plus the bloating and swelling in my feet and legs that was just getting out of control, I knew I had to do something.

So my husband researched juicers and we chose the NutriBullet juice extractor, which you can check out my previous post The Difference Between Juicing and Blending. Once it got here, we started juicing.

Why Does Juicing Work to Improve Health

At first it was difficult to get past some of this “green” taste. Soon I figured out that adding a tiny bit of fruit or a little bit of all natural fruit juice helps cut the green taste. And as I continue juicing, losing weight was a great benefit for me. I lost 12 pounds within the first month. And I just felt better overall.

As I continued to juice on a daily basis, I started mixing veggies, adding a little fruits here and there, but pretty much staying with a low carb menu. I continue to feel better. My hair is growing; my nails are growing; I was losing that bloat and excess water. I could tell that my blood sugar’s were going down just in the way I felt and the fact that my feet were less swollen. Every day I could see and feel a change.

So why does juicing help to change to improve your health?

Juicing allows you to get to the root and into the cells of the actual plant you are juicing, if you are using an extractor base juicer. You are able to absorb every bit of the vitamins and minerals that your body and cells need to function. The macro-nutrients work to help you feel energized. While you may feel full from calories you consume in your food, you’re not necessarily getting the nutrients from that food is giving you, especially in processed foods

Fiber is an important portion of your food and for the most part we don’t get enough of the fiber that we need. It’s important for the reduction of heart disease, diabetes, colon cancers, and of course, obesity. By juicing, you are able to get more fiber in to your body.

Also important are the vital nutrients that you can pull out of a veggie. The antioxidants and the Omega 3 fatty acids that you can get from items like flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, almonds, etc., are critical to good health overall.

While the USDA says that we need 5 to 7 servings of veggies a day, the fact is even if we are able to eat that much food throughout the day, your body is not absorbing nutrients and micro-nutrients like it does when it is completely broken down in an extractor juicer. We can take those 5 to 7 servings of veggies and bump that to 10 or 15 servings of veggies easily just by drinking a juice a day.

By adding juicing to your diet you are improving your chances of fighting diseases that could eventually kill us. For me, I want to choose health over a fatty processed chemical-laden food how will it taste good is actually killing me. Knowing why juicing works to improve health helped me get on track to better health overall.
