I made a commitment with myself that I seriously had to get back on my exercise track. The holidays are always a killer for me because I am not working my main job and that leads to a lot of sitting around.
As you know a lot of sitting does not do wonderful things for your body. Plus walking does so much good for your overall health! So my friend happened to get a temp job where I work and so we made a commitment that between my classes that we would walk.
So the last three weeks I’ve been doing pretty well. We have been walking between a mile and a mile and a half twice a week to start. We then upped it to three times a week. I was doing pretty well and then I got sick.
However, I pushed through three days last week and made it twice this week. Now the bad news is she got a new job and will not be there to walk with me and inspire me.
I am pleased to say I did not let that stop me today. I texted her that I was walking and walk I did. Just a mile because I was still sick, however it’s better than none at all.
It’s amazing what a little bit of encouragement and support can do for a commitment. We had committed to each other to walk and even though she is not there physically anymore, I can still be held accountable by sending her a text that I’m hitting the road.
I feel good about that and I think I surprised her too. She walks so much more than I do but I still think I inspired her to make sure she get some steps in during her lunch hour today.
I’m not near my 10,000 a day quite yet. I am averaging around 7-8,000 steps. However, I am continuing to increase it as much as possible. When I can kick the rest of my illness, I’m hoping to add another half mile to mile each day.
How are you doing on your exercise goals and commitment this year?
