Highland Surrender by Heather McCollum: Review

Highland Surrender by Heather McCollum cover

I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve read a Highlander romance. I don’t pick them up too often, but I thought it was time for a nice change of pace.

This one is releasing this month and it was a good choice for that brawny romance. Continue on for my full review.

SYNOPSIS:
With his family’s honor on the line, Norse warrior Erik Halverson has no choice but to follow the orders of the royal house of Denmark. Now he must follow his destiny―and royal command―to sail to Scotland, find his enemy’s weakest link, and abduct her. Their mistake, of course, was thinking the Sinclair lass wouldn’t fight back.

From the moment her four brothers took control of their clan, Hannah Sinclair has learned to stand tall and defend herself. So when a big, brawny, and admittedly handsome warrior tries to abduct her, she isn’t about to give in. And the more he tries, the more she’s determined to make it as hard as possible…and enjoy it all the while.

Now Norway’s greatest warrior has a Highland hellcat on his hands, and Odin help him, he can’t resist her. But with the brutal Sinclair brothers coming after them, Erik is out of options. War is inevitable. And when a man is forced to choose between duty and passion, only one will win…

Highland Surrender by Heather McCollum Review

This book was pretty quick to capture my attention. We have some great characters that ramp up the interest and hold it throughout.

In some spots it felt like this was part of a series of books. Come to find out it is, but that didn’t detract from the story. But you certainly know you have other connections that are an off-shoot and connected to the main characters in the story. However, I would classify it as a stand-alone.

When it comes to Highlander romance, you definitely get a lot of the history of the time as it pertains to the characters and their developing story. I have to say in this one I did lose track of all of the historical interactions of who’s supporting who, who is protecting who, who’s at war with who. It left me confused a few times.

What I really love about Highland Surrender is the connection between the main characters. It was one of those lust at first sight that grew into so much more. McCollum did us right with the romance portion along with the heat and steam.

While there are a lot of characters to keep track of, most of them secondary, there are still many opportunities for the main characters to interact alone. This book does have a lot of action and continual activity which keeps you engaged. There were a few places in the beginning chapters that bugged me with repetitive thoughts, but that was gone by about 1/4 in.

Overall, Highland Surrender has plenty of steamy romance and passion, and it certainly satisfied that Highlander itch I needed to scratch.

3.5 rolled to 4 STARS!
