Farmers Market Finds for October

local farmers market finds - Turk's Turban Squash from Castroville

I know I must have moved over to the dark side when one of the things I enjoy is hitting up the local farmers markets and stands for unique and delicious veggies and fruits.

In all fairness, I have enjoyed my veggies my whole life, but it is since I have been juicing and eating healthier that I now look forward to my weekly shopping to see what I can find.

Farmers Market Finds for October

local farmers market finds - giant artichokes from Castroville

This past weekend, I was excited to head over to the coast and hit up one of my favorite veggie stands over in Castroville. This is the town known for growing artichokes and the best place to get those delectable delights. Plus it is the best place to be able to afford the giant Artichokes, where I can get the 3 for $5! Here in the grocery stores, they can be upwards of $5 Each! Ridiculous! It is so worth the trip to the coast to grab a bunch to enjoy.

I also found some unique and fun squash called Turk’s Turban. These are perfect for eating (Roast or cook them like you would any squash. They have a slightly nutty taste) or using in your fall decorations. Not something I can find at my local pumpkin patch or in the stores here. I love these!

I also grabbed some other California grown products, like Christopher Ranch garlic, fresh from the farm, local strawberries, and some delicious honey. So good!

Have you hit up the local markets in your area this month? What delicious items have you found?
