Farmers Market Finds for August - grapes, greens and fruits

Farmers Market Finds for August in Calif
I love Saturday mornings and the end of summer. This time of year the mornings are cool and the farmers market’s are in full swing. One of my favorite things to do on Saturday mornings is to get up early and hit the two farmers market’s that are near me.

It’s always fun to see what market day will bring. I love visiting each vendor to see the amazing fruits and veggies that these organic farmers are harvesting. Some of the things that were available today were heirloom tomatoes, variety of potatoes, end of season corn on the cob, variety of peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, and so many other things I can’t even recall.

This time of year also is the grape harvest where I live. It is my favorite time to shop at the farmers market because grapes are one of my favorite things to snack on. The farmer who brings his grapes had several different types today. Thompson Seedless in the full-size and the minis, Red Flame seedless in the mini size, Merlot grapes, and one other I can’t remember the name. I, of course, had to grab a big selection and they are so amazingly sweet.

One of the things I like to do with grapes is freeze them. They’re great to snack on cold and they also work well when I juice them. Plus we just like to eat them as they are too.

Another thing I grabbed was a stone fruits. In season right now are peaches, nectarines, and plums, which are all a favorite here. There were plenty of other fruits too.

I also picked up some kale and watercress for my juicing. I’ve never had watercress before so I’m going to check it out and maybe next week grab even more, if I like it.

The great thing about the farmers market is you can find so many interesting fruits and veggies to try. Plus you know their local you’re supporting your local farmer. There’s also other vendors there too like bakeries, ranchers with meat and eggs, locally produced olive oil and honey, plus plenty of other things too.

So now it’s time to enjoy the fruits of my hard labor this morning. Plus I looking forward to next weeks farmers market to see what else is new.
