I often post about the fresh veggies in the markets that I hit up as often as possible. Right now it’s kind of in between seasons with the fresh fruit reducing, nuts in harvest and the grape harvest starting soon. However, things like cabbages, squash, carrots, artichokes, depending on where you live, tomatoes, corn, and other hardy veggies are still in abundant supply.
I love swinging by good farmers market’s and because of where I live in California, there are many that are established stores. So I stopped by one couple weeks ago and the produce was amazing.
Artichokes are one of my favorite veggies. Because they are limited by their growing season and the location of where they can be grown, they are often in short supply. The giant ones are amazing! So when I do get a chance to get them, I almost want to hoard them!
Cabbages, carrots (which were massive), broccoli, cauliflower, and artichokes were all in good supply. I love using fresh veggies when I cook so it makes sense to grab what I can. The only issues is I sometimes get more than what I can eat in a few days, and they will go bad quicker than what is found at the grocery store. So plan accordingly!
How often are you able to visit your local farmers market and stock up on fresh food? What is your favorite?
