Trapped by Scandal by Jane Feather

I am not one to gravitate to historical romances normally but for a change of pace, I do enjoy picking one up now and then. I have not had the pleasure of reading anything by this author prior to this so I was not sure what to expect. With over 35 books that I could count under her belt, I was a bit shocked I have not read her works before! But with this new release, that will be rectified!

New York Times bestselling author Jane Feather returns to the Regency with a passionate tale that sweeps the reader from the dangerous streets of Paris to the glittering ballrooms of London.

Lady Hero Fanshawe has chafed at society’s dictates since the death of her fiancé taught her that joy can be fleeting. When her brother disappears in Paris at the height of the Terror, she has no hesitation in disguising herself as a boy and risking her life to find him—or in joining forces with a chance-met ally, the enigmatic William Ducasse, Viscount St. Aubrey. And she has no regrets in indulging in a passionate affair with the dangerously handsome stranger, in the shadow of the guillotine…

Half French, half English, William is committed to his shadow life, flirting with death to rescue imperiled aristocrats. Marriage is an indulgence he cannot afford. Once Hero returns to London, he refuses to risk her good name by continuing their liaison. But he has reckoned without the determined Hero’s disregard for propriety…or the dictates of his own heart.

My Thoughts:
This book was somewhat surprising to me. I guess it has been a while since I read a historical romance – at least 6 months or more. I was thrilled to find the heroine not so prim and proper; with a bit of sass, a lot of class, and a lady that knows what she wants! She is a strong woman in her own right and I like that.

The story is well constructed and I am always amazed with the historical details that come to life when reading one of these books. The descriptions and events of the day become alive and add so much to the storyline.

The author offers a well crafted story that kept me captivated throughout and I thoroughly enjoyed the read! The story is exciting and offers everything we expect from a romance including some steam and saucy bits. I loved the way the author brought the story together.

Jane Feather has added me as a convert to her historical romances. I guess I have some catching up to do!
