Cold weather can play havoc with your skin. My skin dries out so much during the winter months and I don’t even have to contend with freezing weather. Just with the heater running, I can see and feel so many changes in my skin.
Protecting your skin is critical in the colder months. Cold air, wind, plus the dry heating we use all combine to create tough conditions for our face and body skin. Here are some tips to help combat the drying skin and affects cold weather has on our body.
Top Skincare Tips for Cold Weather
- Moisturize – Step up the amount of moisturizer you use. If you only use something on your face during the day, look for a night cream to help offset the dry skin. Also add a healing body lotion for all over use once of twice a day.
- Drink plenty of water – cold weather strips our skin of moisture. Drink plenty of water to help add that back in.
- Use no soap on your face – Soap is very drying. Ditch the soap and use only a lovely organic cleanser.
- Use only very mild soap on your body – Make sure the soap you do use is loaded with oils and adds moisture back into your skin.
- Don’t use hot water – Hot water strips moisture. Warm water for baths and showers is best.
- Reduce the use of masks – Some facial masks, like clay based ones, are very drying. Only use clay ones as needed during the winter. Switch to masks less drying or reduce the amount of use.
- Use oils for very dry skin – If your skin is cracking and super dry, try using body oils. They are beautiful and leave your skin feeling and looking amazing. They are great on your face too!
- Use a humidifier -Add moisture back into your home with a humidifier. Alternatively a hot water kettle on the stove at simmer will help in a pinch too.
- Be sure to use sunblock and lip balms – Protect your skin when outdoors
- Exercise to keep your blood flowing – Your body needs the exercise all year long. Great blood flow helps your skin look amazing.
Take care of your skin and it will take care of you for a lifetime!
