There's Something About Molly by Christina Hovland - cover and book review

I was introduced to this author earlier this year with the first publication in her Mommy Wars series. A fun group of standalone romcom’s that surround a group of female friends.

I was able to check out and review the next in the series this week. Publishing later this month, read on for my thoughts on this new release.

OVERVIEW:
Molly Princeton hasn’t met the right guy. Yes, she’s a dating coach. But she’s also a single mom with a rocky relationship history. She may be able to help others find love, but she doesn’t really need it in her life. Happiness doesn’t require falling in love. Winning a matchmaker competition however requires being part of a couple. And darn it, she needs to win this one. That’s when she sets her sights on Gavin Frank—the one man she would absolutely never fall in love with.

Gavin is her nemesis, her best friend’s ex, and yeah, okay, he’s sexy as sin. He’s also off limits. But she’s out of other options. Plus Gavin could use a fake relationship to keep his meddling mother from setting up blind dates with every available woman in the Mile High City. There’s no way he’d fall for Molly. None. Nada.

The two quickly learn there’s a thin line between hate and love, and she finds herself tipping onto the wrong side. For the first time, she doesn’t have all the answers. What the heck is she supposed to do next? Lucky for her, Gavin realizes there’s something about Molly he can’t resist…

There’s Something About Molly by Christina Hovland Review

Sometimes it is tough to review a book. For someone who loves to read, and has read thousands of books over the years, I have really found a few things that I need and look for in a romance story. I need to be sucked into the story. I need the happiness and kindness. I need to feel the connection between the couple.

I really loved Gavin in this book. The bad guy in another relationship, he is trying to reform and not be the hated one. In all honesty, he has a bad rap from everyone surrounding him, but has recognized his issues and is working hard to solve them.

Molly, on the other hand. I really had a tough time connecting to her. She was annoying at times and could not get over the fact she was supposed to hate this guy. Molly also was continually down on herself, and for a dating coach, she never allowed herself to feel anything for any guy. Yeah, there really is something about Molly that struck me as soooo insecure and almost unlikeable in spots.

I really have mixed feelings on this one. I want to love these two together but it took me to the end to feel the connection. Hovland did a great job balancing them together between the bad persona of Gavin and the insecure Molly but I felt that Gavin had so much more to deal with in her world.

While they built a good repour, playful bantering’s, and enjoyed a steamy scene or two, I really missed the overall hold your breath moments that make a romance.

Overall, There’s Something About Molly is a fun, fast story that combines motherhood, best friends, and a swoon-worthy guy you will love.
