I discovered a new to me author the other day and I was really looking forward to reviewing his book. This author writes in the black ops genre and it had been a few months since I’ve read anything in that area.

Eager to dive in, the story proved to be easy to read and interesting. Read on for my full review.

The Extractor by Ethan Jones - cover and review

ABOUT:
What if you had nothing to live for and nothing to lose…

Devastated after his wife and daughter disappeared in a mysterious plane crash, Jack Storm, former CIS extractor, is failing to keep it all together. When a crucial asset is trapped in Tehran, the agency has no choice but to bring their top agent Jack back into service. They assign him a nearly-impossible mission, knowing he’s a ticking time bomb…

Sent in with a know-it-all rookie, despondent Jack is relentlessly hunted at every turn. If he is caught, he’ll be hanged. But does Jack even care?

Double-crossed, alone, and with the clock ticking, Jack, now more furious than hopeless, focuses his rage. But what does he have left to sacrifice to ensure the asset makes it out alive?

The Extractor by Ethan Jones Review

The author has a different take on this type of story. His main character is an extractor. One who goes into danger situations and removes valuable assets to bring them to safety.

This is a great twist on these type of stories and his character comes to the story with major flaws that can cause vulnerability in his job. No body is perfect and Jones set his guy up with multiple issues with his wife and child missing.

Because of that, he’s given a partner. While at first I thought this would cause discontent, they actually got along and worked well together, after a shocking test of of wills. Even some bro hugs along the way.

The story Jones brings us is very fast moving and actually caused a few questions of my own along the way. Jack was blindly trusting other people. Diving in without a plan at all and creating interesting situations to get out of.

Personally, I felt a few areas that some of the flow seemed a bit stilted and felt a little awkward here and there. Nothing to be distressed about, however. It evens out and Jones throws more than a few punches along the way.

Overall, an action packed read with some expected outcomes but also plenty of unexpected twists too. Great first novel for this series!
