Tendu Toning: Where Ballet Meets Fitness

* Product received for review purposes

I have been a tomboy my entire life. Even when I was a little girl you would always find me climbing trees, playing football and baseball with the boys, and even writing my brothers bike that was five times too big for me. I couldn’t even sit on the seat! But I would ride that bike as much as he’d let me.

But even thought I was a tomboy inside I still had some girly tendencies. One of those tendencies when I was little was to take ballet. My girlfriend was taking it and I thought that was the neatest thing. However, my mom never really thought that way. She saw me with barefoot with scratches and bruises all over from running around and playing tough with the boys.

Today, I’m still pretty much a tomboy inside. I do tomboyish stuff but still have those girly tendencies. I work out hard with weights but I also enjoy the fine art of stretching, being limber while looking for beautiful toning and strength for my body.

About Tendu Toning

Today we are blessed to have so many different options in our workouts for women. When you take professional ballerinas who turn into fitness professionals, you end up with workouts that bring together the toning of ballet with the strength of bodybuilding. Women today want to be strong and healthy.

Rachel Speck who is the owner of SpeckFitness created a new program called Tendu Toning. Tendu means to stretch or extend the leg in Ballet terms.

The Tendu Toning technique is a total body workout that fuses traditional ballet technique and positions and combines them with weights, resistance, and increased repetitions to maximize the results in just a short amount of time.

Rachel uses a simple ballet step called an Attitude with weights and repetitions that becomes the basis of Tendu Toning method. This gives you the long lean muscles that women love as well as the beautiful workouts from ballet.

The DVD is divided into sections that includes warm-up. Using simple items such as a barre or chair, a towel or glides, a small ball, resistance band, and even ankle weights or small handweights, if you choose.

The first is the Squat series which works the legs, glutes, and hips.

The Attitude series works the glutes, hamstrings, and back.

The 2nd Position series incorporate squats, leg stretches, and arms.

The Band Kickback series uses resistance bands to work your legs and back.

The Lunge series uses the glide and incorporates ankle weights, if you choose while using the barre.

And lastly the program uses floor work for arms and abs.

The workout ends with beautiful stretches and a cool down.

  1. I like that this workout combines Pilate and weights or strength training with Ballet. I loved Ballet when I was younger and this looks like a good work out.
