I have a great new author to introduce you to you today. I picked up this book to review after mulling it over for several days. Like I said in previous publications, I love giving new writers a chance. I liked the plot synopsis so I thought I would give it a whirl.
I was pleasantly surprised with this engaging story but not without a few issues. These being corrected can make a huge difference for this book. Here are my thoughts.

It has been a year since Karina Hawkins learned her husband had been killed in the line of duty. Now as she does her best to raise their young twin daughters alone, Karina decides to return to work in another attempt to rebuild her broken life. But when she arrives at a tech company to begin her new role as general counsel, she has no idea what awaits her inside.
Sawyer Banks has never forgotten Karina. Although he is a man with few regrets, losing the love of his life is one of them. Now that Karina is available and he is her new boss, he has every intention of getting her back–and he is not stopping until she is his again. Although their chemistry is undeniably delicious, Karina is uncertain if they can overcome the hurt and secrets between them. But when a threat from her past returns and places her family in danger, Sawyer must prove if he is strong enough to stand by her and not abandon her once again.
In this erotic romance, a widow passionately reconnects with her soul mate just as her past comes back to haunt her, leaving them both to wonder if their relationship will survive.
Review of The Road Back by Marla Machado
One of the very first things that struck me within the first chapter while reading this book was the fact this cover in no way represents what the book is about. The cover would be fine on a fiction novel, not for a contemporary romance.
Another issue that must be resolved is the number of punctuation and grammatical errors. Punctuation is mainly the problem but this is something that a good editor could clear up quickly. These two issues changed could mean a world of difference for this book.
On a good note, I thoroughly enjoyed the read! This author did a wonderful job telling a unique and compelling story. It was full of sexy, hot, steaming romance and the author was able to articulate situations that were very true to life and felt very real. Despair, guilt, hope, surprise, passion, and finally happiness were all a big portion of this story. Throw in a few twists and you have a wonderful read!
I loved the character development and especially fell for Mr. hot and steamy, Sawyer. I think the two made a wonderful connection and the fact they were able to rekindle something special made a sad start a fabulous, smoking read.
This author has a wonderful storytelling talent begging to come out. The Road Back offers a surprising read that pulls you in and wraps you up, throughout the book. High interest, plenty of sexy scenes, and a beautifully matched couple makes this a reader’s delight.
I’d be very interested to see this book again with the corrections made and I know that would help improve the interest and sale-ability for this author and this particular book. I think the author has a lot of good things to come and I will definitely watch for more from her in the coming years.
