ABOUT:
Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.
Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.
Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.
Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry Review
I had a lot of fun reading this one and I’m sure the author truly enjoyed developing these two quirky characters. They are opposite in so many ways yet blended beautifully together.
Best friends for many years, this book is written in a method that brings us two parts of the story; the past leading up to the present, and then present day.
But not all was well with the world.
Oh, I was getting frustrated with wondering what happened! Why the break? Ack! It seemed I had to read faster to find out what was going on. And the countdown from the past to the present seriously messed with my head.
Henry has mastered the subtleties of love. Those demure inklings of Maybe. Flutterings in your belly. The slooowww burn that keeps you awake at night. Not just a love of a best friend but those strings of “could this really be what I feel?” Plus the fear of trying to explore anything for years because it’s just in your head. BFFs forever, right?
Written with wacky wit and a quirkiness that endears you to Poppy and Alex, whose weirdness unites; a deep insight into an everlasting friendship; warm feelings of love; and a connection that lasts a lifetime. We can only hope that we experience a connection like this in our lifetime. A heartwarming friends to lovers story that gives you all the feels! And that ending? SIGHHHHHH
