I don’t think there is anyone that has not lost a friend over the course of the years. I remember having an argument with one friend and growing apart after that, never healed or resolved. I also remember one friend who made choices to move into other groups of friends that did not include me. Losing a friend, even years ago, can hurt our heart yet today.
I could relate so well to this new release that I was able to review. A lovely contemporary women’s fiction novel that will remind you of broken friendships and lead you to look forward to the hope of letting go of the past hurts with a promise of renewed friendship. Check out:
NOW AND THEN FRIENDS by Kate Hewitt
Series: A Hartley-by-the-Sea Novel (Book 2)
Publisher: NAL (July 12, 2016)
ISBN-13: 978-0451475596
Childhood best friends Rachel Campbell and Claire West have not only grown up, but after fifteen years, they’ve also grown apart…
After her father left, Rachel had to dedicate her life to managing her household: her two younger sisters, her disabled mother, and her three-year-old nephew. When Rachel’s not struggling to look after all of them, she makes her living cleaning the houses of wealthy families—including the Wests, where a surprise now awaits her. . . .
A lifetime of drifting in other people’s currents has finally left Claire high and dry. First it was her parents, then the popular crowd in school, and finally her fiancé. Now she’s returned to Hartley-by-the-Sea to recover. But running into Rachel brings back memories of past mistakes, and Claire wonders if she now has the courage to make them right.
Soon Claire’s brother, Andrew, asks Rachel to keep an eye on Claire, which is the last thing either woman wants. But as their lives threaten to fall apart, both Claire and Rachel begin to realize what they need most is a friend. The kind of friend they once were to each other, and perhaps can be again. . . .
My Thoughts about Now And Then Friends by Kate Hewitt
Oh to be young again and know what I know now. Sometimes we look back and wonder how it would be if something changed in our past. Would a simple “I’m sorry” make the difference in a friendship long lost? Or was it meant to be a broken friendship?
Author Kate Hewitt takes us on a trip to England and a lovely village where everyone knows who you are and your past is hard to overcome. She tells a story rich with tales of the past and hope for the future. Broken friendships that beg to be healed. And how one person’s view may not be how the other viewed it at all. Even the strong need help and sometimes the help comes from where you least expect it.
This book was an easy to read and smooth story that takes you away into the recesses of your own mind with stories of past friendships and hurt feelings. Beautifully written with characters that are strong in many ways and yet vulnerable too. Can forgiveness in yourself and to others be all that it takes to heal you, your heart, and your past friendships?
