I live in the central valley of California. I’m sure you know where that is but what is different is here the area is dedicated to farming and crop growing. Sometimes known as the Salad Bowl because of all of the different vegetables, fruit, and nuts that is growing in this area.
That also means we have a lot of dust, dirt, debris, spiders, critters and other things like that floating around. It can mean a lot of issues for your health.
When I first moved to this area, I had massive sinus headaches for years – 10 years to be exact. I had to acclimate to this natural pollution-filled area and it took that long to do it.
My son also had issues when he was a baby through to about five or six years old. He also will have a terrible sinus issues and infections – one landed him in the hospital for three days when he was just four. I think the first four years of his life he lived on antibiotic’s. Sad to say!
All these issues have dissipated over time but occasionally him and I both have flare ups. But now we look to a little more natural things we can do to stay healthy and feeling well.
One of the things that I have used in the past is a Salt Rock lamp. These natural organic pieces of salt from the earth are made into candle holders or lamps. The candle or lightbulb heats that salt. That in turn gives off negative ions, which are known to help with mood elevation, stress reduction, indoor allergies, and air quality.
Using a Himalayan salt lamp in our home utilizes the negative ions (the same ones you feel on the beach or after a lightning storm that make you feel amazing) in a positive way. The 200 million year-old salt is so pure that it absorbs the pollutants in the air of your home, helping you breathe easier. I think we can all appreciate that!
Plus there are so many beautiful styles of these salt rock lamps, you can totally blend them into your decor. One for each room will help purify the air and they add a flair to your home too. So fun!
We also look to other organic and easy things we can do like salt water flushes for sinuses and things like that. Also keeping the house free of dust and dirt, while extremely difficult, it does help some along with the air purifiers.
While these things are not perfect solution, they are better than antibiotic’s and living on sinus medication constantly. I would rather try to find something holistic and natural instead of using chemicals.
I’m always looking for ways to stay healthy and keep my family healthy as well. Any little tool I can use, like a salt rock lamp for air quality, I’m certainly going to try it.
What holistic methods do you use for air quality or your health in your home?
