May Is National Mobility Awareness Month

Being a caretaker for someone who is disabled can be a tough job. I know this first hand. So much of the day to day living can be a challenge for those with limited mobility, especially when it comes to leaving the home. You have to rely on the good graces of those around you for assistance to go anywhere unless you are able to have a modified vehicle which will open up your access and allow you to enjoy more freedoms.

There is an association called NMEDA that offers wheelchair accessible vehicles through a  Quality Assurance Program (QAP) dealer for specific customization and expert assistance to find the correct vehicle for you and your family. The NMEDA QAP will make sure you have all of the mobility solutions necessary for your disability and safety.

All NMEDA mobility equipment dealers are required to be QAP accredited, ensuring the highest standards in mobility equipment installations. This unique training program is how NMEDA assures quality, safety, and electro-mechanical integrity of the product delivered to every one who purchases an handi-cap accessible car.

As someone who is married to a partially handicapped person, I know how tough it can be to have limited accessibility. Wheelchairs are big and bulky and for someone disabled, they may not be able to lift and hoist that chair out of the car. That is why vehicles that are modified properly allow a disabled person so much of the freedoms they used to have and more.

If you know someone who is disabled and needs an accessible car, or perhaps you do, there are car dealerships, located in the US and Canada, where NMEDA QAP accredited technicians work to make sure each vehicle provides safety and comfort for you and your passengers. Stop by the site and find one close to your home.

Also, May is National Mobility Awareness Month and NMEDA is looking for local Heroes.  You can participate by nominating yourself or another Local Hero from your community during the promotion. Entries are being accepted on April 20 – May 31, 2016. Then voting for your favorite Local Hero is open May 1 – 31, 2016. The website is MobilityAwarenessMonth.com.

Stop by the NMEDA site and see how they can help you. There are many forms of disability and they will have a solution for your mobility needs.
