Maid for Each Other by Lynn Painter: Review

cover for Maid for Each Other by Lynn Painter

Lynn Painter is a rather new author to me and I have enjoyed several of her books so far. When I saw this new one up for review, which will be releasing this summer, of course, I had to check it out.

This story is a sweet, lighthearted, closed-door romance that is refreshing and an overall great story. Check out my thoughts below.

OVERVIEW:
As a professional cleaner, Abi Mariano never thought her apartment would have any sort of infestation, but because of a building-wide outbreak, she now needs somewhere to stay for a week. As a part-time student with two jobs, she doesn’t have many options. Then the solution presents itself: the owner of the penthouse she cleans is out of town for the week. She normally wouldn’t consider it, but he’s literally never around (she hasn’t even met him). It goes great…until one morning she finds two strangers in the kitchen. They’re the parents of the penthouse owner and they seem to think they’ve heard all about Abi—not as their son’s maid, but as his girlfriend.

Declan Powell has always put his career first, working his way up to become an executive at his company, but he still has his sights set on the next level. When his parents mention that they met his girlfriend, “Abby,” he all but chokes on his escargot. As wonderful as it sounds that she was just darling, he doesn’t actually have a girlfriend—he made her up to get everyone off his back. When Dex finds out who Abi really is, he makes her a proposition: pretend to date him, and he’ll provide everything she needs during their little arrangement. What harm would it do? It’s purely business, no pleasure…right?

Maid for Each Other by Lynn Painter Review

Sometimes books that are labeled as a rom-com don’t always end up that way for the reader. However, this story delivered the humor.

The lead female character was very witty and had a great sense of humor, especially when it came to fake dating scenarios with a millionaire. The banter between these two is really what made the story. Her sass balanced with his ultra dry, hard-to-crack facade brought balance to a familiar trope.

The rags-to-riches scenes were memorable and so sweet. I love these two together! The secondary characters became the stage and added another layer of delight to the story.

Painter pulls out the stops with her FMC character and the quick wit, but there were a few areas where she was getting a bit mean and overly snarky. Dex was sometimes not communicative, which led to issues, of course, and a third act breakdown. ugh

Maid for Each Other is a sweet, charming, and romantic story that only Painter can tell with her flirty, light-hearted way with words that envelop the reader.

I might be a rarity in that I was not thrilled with the way she chose to end this one. We do get the happily ever after, but I really wanted more!

4 STARS!!
