Foster’s Revenge: All Devils Must Die by Jack Kelley
Series: A Luke Foster Novel
Publisher: ‎ Torchflame Books
Pub Date: September 24, 2024
ISBN-13: ‎ 978-1611535952

Synopsis:
In a kill-or-be-killed world, The Reaper does whatever it takes to survive.

Following the murder of his half-brother, legendary Army Ranger Luke Foster returns to the United States from fighting terrorists. His brother’s history with a prominent New York Mafia family was no secret, so it’s no surprise his life was cut short. But the Mafia enforcers don’t know about Foster, his reputation as The Reaper, or that he’s coming for them.

FBI Special Agent Calico Hayes is determined to stop Luke Foster from leaving a trail of bodies across the U.S. in his unsanctioned quest for vengeance. But stopping Foster’s revenge proves more difficult than she expected, and sparks fly in more ways than one when the two cross paths.

While investigating his brother’s murder, they uncover a sinister plan to assassinate a populous Presidential Candidate. Hayes and Foster must put purpose before passion in order to stop the diabolical plot that could trigger a World War.

Foster’s Revenge: All Devils Must Die by Jack Kelley Review

I had high hopes for this book! I was so ready for a good murder/crime story! I have never heard of the author before but enjoy reading new authors. So diving in, I was not sure what to expect.

The plot was great! The author had everything technically great for the story to be plausible. A tough-as-nails Ranger determined to find his brother’s murderer. A smart, savvy female FBI agent determined to stay ahead of him so he doesn’t blow up her case.

Realizing they would need to work together to get the job done was a bit tougher for me to stay in the story.

Kelley writes his plots and sequences to keep you highly engaged. The twists rarely stop. But the conversational and descriptive tie-ins are really lacking. It feels flat and one-dimensional and I had a tough time enjoying these two together.

There were also a few spots where I lost track of what character worked for what crime family; who was a good guy or not!

If you can gloss over the writing style, Foster’s Revenge: All Devils Must Die is a great story overall. The ramped-up pacing is there. The continual action is there. But the conversation flow is a bit tough to get used to and the romantic slant is not overly believable.
