I have been reading books by Charmaine Pauls for several years now. I love her different style and the darker edge of her stories.

Anna Zaires is also a author known for her darker stories. I’ve read a few of hers and have enjoyed them as well.

I was excited to find that this new release is a combination of their talents and I was even more thrilled to be asked to review it for you.

An Enemies-to-Lovers standalone, here my thoughts on this new book.

ABOUT:
Once upon a cold, dark night, a Russian killer stole me from an alley.
I’m dangerous, but he is lethal.
I escaped once.
He won’t let me do it twice.

The revenge is his.
The betrayal is mine.
But so are the lies to protect the ones I love.

We’re cut from the same twisted cloth. Both merciless. Both damaged.
In his embrace, I find hell and heaven, his cruelly tender touch destroying and uplifting me at once.

They say a cat has nine lives, but an assassin has just one.
And Yan Ivanov now owns mine.

Darker romance stories are not enjoyed by all romance lovers. There are so many different nuances in the genres today that you have to make sure you’re finding the stories that you truly enjoy.

Every once in a while I like to walk on the wild side and these two authors are recognized for creative, in-depth, sexual, and emotional stories that tie you up in knots and even make you gasp a few times.

Although the story deals with the more ruthless and violent side of people, and the connection between Mina and Yan is more physical to start, the authors completely develop this complex relationship. There’s so many levels to these characters, you honestly feel like you’re in the same room with them.

The story involves ruthless people, hardened criminals, vulnerable characters, and ultimately deep connections and feelings that are hard to dismiss even surrounding the dark, disconcerting method in which they are brought together.

If you are one who enjoys a bit of raw, hardened, steamy hot, dark romance, this might be a book for you. If you love light, sweet, happy contemporary stories, this is not for you.
