Corrupt by Penelope Douglas: Review

Corrupt by Penelope Douglas cover

I had a chance to review a book that is coming out in a new edition and a new cover soon, with bonus material added too. Previously published multiple times, this edition is paperback. And while it has thousands of reviews, both positive and negative, this is one book that you must decide for yourself.

Only for readers that like dark romance, check out my thoughts below on this book.

OVERVIEW:
Erika Fane’s boyfriend’s older brother is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than he is with her. But she saw him. She heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…

For years, Erika bit her nails, unable to look away. Now, she’s in college, but she hasn’t stopped watching him. He’s bad and the things she’s seen aren’t content to stay in her head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed her.

But Michael Crist knows the hold he has on Rika, how much she fears him. She looks down when he enters the room and stills when he’s close. He knows she thinks only of him. When Michael’s brother leaves for the military, leaving Rika alone and unprotected, he knows the opportunity is too good to be true.

Three years ago she put Michael’s friends in prison, and now they’re free.

Every last one of her nightmares is about to come true.

Corrupt by Penelope Douglas Review

This book is written in a format that leaves you guessing from page one. Douglas tells the story with drips of information and two points of view. Bouncing back between time, you have to wait patiently to peel back the layers to get to what is really going on.

Building anticipation with every page turn, the characters are masterfully crafted with some you like and most you hate. Sometimes I was bouncing between like and hate quite easily.

The characters seem unbalanced and hateful. Michael can be kind and loving one minute and mean and ugly the next, always keeping the reader and the main character, Rika, mentally off and just a bit fearful.

This book is a trip in many ways. It is addictive because you are dying to know what is going to happen. But Corrupt is twisted and screwed up, and some characters are just plain mean!

Douglas does not hold back with the heat levels between the two main characters and some of the scenes are fan worthy. If you are into a darker romance with some questionable psychological twists to it, this is one you will want to check out!

Love it or hate it, it is corrupt and addicting.
