I am always trying to improve my health and wellness. So I do research and read articles. I guess I could say I am an expert at weight loss since I have lost hundreds of pounds over the years!
The problem is that those pounds keep finding me again! LOL… sort of.
Over the past year, I have been following the Eat Like a Bear plan but I have been struggling the past 6 months or so. I keep thinking back to the last time I lost a significant amount of weight and wondered what was the difference.
Then it hit me. Protein
Adding Protein for Improved Health Results
One of the things I have found over the years is that my body runs on protein. Without a certain amount every day, I don’t feel at my peak.
Don’t get me wrong, I can and will continue using the Elab plan but I am adding more protein for my body type. According to MedicaNewsToday, a person should aim to get 10-35% of their total daily calories from protein unless they are very active or seek to build muscle.
One gram (g) of protein contains around 4 calories. A person who eats 2,000 calories daily and gets 20% of their calories from protein would consume 100 g of protein, totaling 400 calories.
News flash. I was nowhere near getting enough protein in my diet.
8 oz of chicken thighs without the skin is 403 calories- 228 gr. I was not weighing my food nor consuming enough proteins.
I decided to increase the amount of protein for me, especially since I am very overweight, and I was having to supplement, which is not usually necessary for me.
I started just a few days ago by adding more protein and cutting back a bit on the veggies so I can eat what I need and still do my intermittent fasting. (Big Secret – Intermittent fasting REALLY helps drop the weight and allows your body to heal from the inside out!)
At first, I thought that not having enough fiber was going to make me hungrier, but I am going okay so far. My body is adjusting a bit but should be back to normal soon. I am not having an issue fasting for up to 23 hours a day.
I bought the book The Obesity Code today and I am reading that to help me too. Dr. Fung is a bit proponent of fasting. I will give you my thoughts here too when I am done with it.
More to come as I continue to tweak and find the perfect recipe for my body!
