I love it when you find a book that just sucks you in and makes you forget about what you’re supposed to do that day. Sometimes it catches you off guard, but it certainly makes you feel a whole lot better.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and it was delightful. Check out my thoughts below.

OVERVIEW:
Juliet has learnt that life is too short not to chase your dreams. But when she buys an old watermill in France, her tranquil new start is quickly kneaded into something far more ambitious when the local mayor offers her a deal she can’t refuse: reopen the village’s derelict boulangerie.
With a formidable rival – the owner of the local bread vending machine – determined to crush her, Juliet faces disgruntled villagers, her own lack of baking skills, and hidden secrets within the mill itself.
But with help from her outspoken neighbour and the charming Tabac owner, Juliet battles to bring back the aroma of freshly baked bread – and with it, the heart of the community.
Can she prove that even the biggest dreams start with just a little pinch of courage?
Summer at the French Bakery by Jo Thomas Review
It seems like summer is when we see a lot of books about traveling abroad or moving to a new country. It’s always a fun trope to check out, especially if we’re not traveling anywhere ourselves.
The story takes us to France to a delightful, tiny, tiny town where the people aren’t overly friendly or exactly who they profess to be to start.
The interactions between the people were different from what you’re expecting, and this book became a story that I became very invested in. I didn’t want to stop reading as we’re struggling for a positive outcome. Who do you trust? Who can help you achieve your dreams and goals?
Summer at the French Bakery started a little rocky for me. I didn’t exactly agree with the way her marriage was ending or how it changed directions super fast. But the further I got into the book, the more I became invested in what she was trying to bring to the town and to herself.
The author writes at a calm pace, with rich detail and imagery, so you can experience the story as you read. The romance builds throughout and is sweet with the main male character, a kind and generous soul.
For a comforting trip to France, Thomas delivers a refreshing and engaging story. Just what you need in our hectic lives.
