Mixed Signals by B.K. Borison: Review

Mixed Signals by B.K. Borison cover

I discovered this author and series just a month or so ago when I absolutely fell in love with book number two In The Weeds. Oh my gosh, the author just blew me away with her sensual descriptions while the characters were falling in love.

This week, I’m excited to bring to you another book in the series. These are somewhat standalone’s, but you do need to know the characters which she’s pretty good about blending into the story. Read my review below.

SYNOPSIS:
Layla Dupree has given up on love. She’s waded through all the fish in the sea, each one more disappointing than the last. Apparently, owning the bakery at Inglewild’s most romantic destination does not help one’s love life—despite Layla’s best efforts. All she wants is a partner who gives her butterflies, not someone who ghosts her at dinner and leaves her with the check.

Good thing Caleb Alvarez has the perfect solution. After saving Layla from another date gone bad, he has a simple proposition: one month of no-strings dating. He’ll do his best to renew her faith in men while she rates his romantic game. It’s a win-win situation. All the benefits of dating without the added pressure of feelings and unmet expectations.

But there’s one ingredient they haven’t considered. The chemistry between them is red-hot, and the urge to take things to the next level is more tempting than Layla’s mocha fudge brownies.

Mixed Signals by B.K. Borison Review

I was blown away by the first story I read by this author and I vowed to follow her and keep up with her contemporary romance novels. I am glad I did as here is the next installment in the series.

A character often spoken about and referred to from the first books, the story focuses on Layla, a business professional turned baker.

With dating a dismal failure, the premise of the story is to practice dating someone she did not expect, and that is a customer of hers that frequently visits the bakery. By frequently… as in three days a week, plus frequent special orders. Caleb has serious dating issues too but for a good reason.

Commiserating with each other these two finally find strength, fun, light-hearted happiness, and eventually love in each other.

This author is definitely a fan of the slow-burn romance. In this book, the female character could not trust herself, definitely did not trust others, and had zero self-esteem in terms of believing in her talents and her capacity for love. It was actually sad and a bit frustrating towards the end when she simply could not open her eyes.

Borison did treat us to her exquisitely, detailed love scenes when they did occur but I wish there was more. This book is definitely one that makes us wait while they work through life and trust issues. These two needed a bit of a wake-up call!

Mixed Signals is a community affair in many ways with wonderful supporting characters. But Borison delivers this wonderful story with humor and drips of sensuality. Let’s not forget those intricate details that she liberally sprinkles in to make you fall in love with love again.

4 STARS!
