I have been using Keto principles for many years in my diet plans. I have to say I have learned a thing or two about the easiest ways to keep keto easy to use and easy to stick with for long periods of time.
Let’s look at a few of my favorite tips that may help you!
Tips to Keep Keto Easy
1. Meal Prep
You have to keep the foods you can and want to eat in the house and prepare ahead as much as possible! I have found that when I cheat and go off plan is when I have no food prepared or someone talks me into something else. (Yes, I am weak!)
2. Keep a Variety of Meats and Veggies Available
While I have no issues eating the same foods over and over, many people (my hubby included) struggle with eating the same thing. Shop 1-2 times a week and plan what you will have available for your meals.
3. Keep Your Meal Plans Simple
While it is fun to try different recipes, realize that it also adds stress and more time to prepare your food if you are trying to cook something new and different every day. Keep meals simple and quick to prepare for a higher success rate. Try new recipes on the weekend or when you have more time.
4. Add a Salad at Least Once a Day
It really does help clean out your system and lets you add many different veggies and fats you need to your diet.
5. Don’t be Afraid of Fruits
There are tons of berries and fruits you can eat on Keto. Don’t drink the juices; eat whole fruits! Your body will thank you!
6. Remember Your Body Gets the Carbs from Veggies and Fruits
Your brain lives off of carbs. Just not the fake chemical-laden ones. You are feeding your brain with the good carbs in your veggies and fruit choices. Eat the rainbow!
7. You Need Electrolytes and Salt
These are critical for muscle cramps and other issues. Your body needs salt too. Add an electrolyte drink like Vitamin Water (or make your own) to a meal and make sure to include salt in your diet. Drink your water but know that the excess water we are drinking will flush out the salts. So it is a balance.
8. Take a Good Whole Food Multivitamin with B Complex and Magnesium
When you cut out entire food groups, you need to make up for it somewhere. Yes, your body will adjust but you might see hair loss and other issues. Take your vitamins. Your body will release whatever vitamins and minerals it does not need.
9. Season Your Food
When everything tastes the same, it is easy to get bored with your food. That will be a sure sign you need to add seasoning and variety to your meals.
10. Eat Plenty of Proteins
Remember protein is not just meat. You can find it in meats, eggs, nuts, cheeses, and more! Mix it up so you are eating a nice mixture and variety of protein. I follow @DrJamesDiNic on Instagram who is a proponent of high protein diets – 1 g of protein per pound of body weight at your goal weight. Want to weigh 150? Then 150 g of protein a day.
Lastly – Track your food! It does help!
