If police procedural crime novels are a favorite on your reading list, I have a upcoming release I reviewed that I think you’ll enjoy.
While this is the first time I’ve read this author, he is a best selling author with over 6 million books sold and this happens to be book 8 in the series. I have not read any of the others, however, I did not feel lost, thankfully. Continue on for the full review and my thoughts.
In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni
Publisher: Thomas & Mercer
Pub Date: April 20, 2021
ISBN-13: 978-1542008372
ABOUT:
Returning from an extended leave in her hometown of Cedar Grove, Detective Tracy Crosswhite finds herself reassigned to the Seattle PD’s cold case unit. As the protective mother of an infant daughter, Tracy is immediately drawn to her first file: the abduction of a five-year-old girl whose parents, embattled in a poisonous divorce, were once prime suspects.
While reconstructing the days leading up to the girl’s disappearance, Tracy is brought into an active investigation with former partner Kinsington Rowe. A young woman has vanished on an isolated jogging trail in North Seattle. Divided between two critical cases, Tracy has little to go on except the treacherous deceptions behind a broken marriage―and now, the secrets hiding behind the closed doors of a deceptively quiet middle-class neighborhood.
To find two missing persons, Tracy will have to follow more than clues, which are both long cold and unsettlingly fresh. Given her own traumatic past, Tracy must also follow her instincts―to whatever dark and dangerous places they may lead.
In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni Review
I am not sure when I started reading police procedural books but it was quite a while ago. I’m excited to find a new author and a cool series that I can catch up on.
From the get-go, I really liked the main character, Tracy. She has spunk and does not take crap from her superior officer. This book sends her deep into cold cases with the ability to manage her life just a bit more. I even loved her husband and their seemingly well-balanced relationship. A nice change.
Dugoni captured me with the intricate weaving of cases within this story. A plethora of details that intertwine beautifully which allow you to sink in and enjoy. The story flows perfectly as we follow along trying to solve the crimes too. He does not shy away from the tough topics either!
While some things are obvious, as we know who some of the perpetrators are, Dugoni manages to throw in several surprises that really catch you. I love when that happens! Major 180’s in the plot keeps you on the edge waiting for the climax and it was sooo worth it! Love the zingers and dry humor buried in the story as well!
A fabulous intro for me to a new series and definitely an author I will be watching. A compulsive and captivating novel!
5 STARS!!
