Choosing the Right Foundation for Your Skin

We have all seen the booboo’s when it comes to foundation. Its seems that one of the hardest things to do when it comes to applying make up is to choose the right color and type of foundation for your skin. We don’t want to be seen with too light or too dark of foundation on us. Here are a few tips to help you choose the proper one for you.

Choosing the Right Foundation for Your Skin

First off is to know what type of foundation you need for your skin. If you are oily, you will need a non oily base foundation. These usually come in the form of a powder or cream. If you have normal or dry skin, you will be looking for a liquid more than likely. Most of them are labeled be skin type, so make sure to read the label.

Also look for type of coverage on the foundation container. A Light coverage means that you will be able to see your skin through your foundation. It is mainly there to finish out any flaws and even out skin tone. Medium is a bit heavier and will cover more and Full coverage is just what it implies. It is going to cover pretty much everything.

On to color selection….The tough part. The easiest way to choose the right color is to use your jaw line. Not the back of your hand. Your hand has much tougher skin and is usually darker than your face. Your perfect foundation color should blend completely in and disappear without changing the color of your face. Some people find it easier to go to a cosmetic counter and try different ones. You can also use the testers at the drugstore. What you are looking for is as basic description of the color so that when you buy different brands you can find similar colors.

I am a Medium Neutral. Most foundations in this range of color are perfect for me. Yes, there are variations by brand, so you can try some of the colors to get the perfect one for you but it at least narrows the playing field!

If you follow these basic guidelines, it should take the scariness out of buying the perfect color for you. And you can ask your girlfriend for her opinion as well. No one wants to be the one with the white kabuki face.
