When you make a big lifestyle change there’s things that you learn along way.. Especially when you change from eating whatever you want to healthier style such as the low carb, high protein and high-fat plans that are becoming mainstream.

It’s a big change moving from one type of eating to another. You still have to cook for other people so the temptation to eat the things you shouldn’t be eating is still there in your face. The cravings for those delicious high-fat goodies can pop up from time to time, but you do learn how to manage them and learn what works for you.

But with all the ups and downs I’ve experienced over the past year, there are three things that have really stuck out and made themselves clear to me, especially because I’m in my midlife age a.k.a. menopausal. Yuck.

3 Things I Learned From Eating Low Carb

  1. I absolutely have to eat breakfast. If I don’t eat breakfast then I don’t really get the results in weight loss that I’m looking for. Plus I don’t get the fuel that I need for the exercises that I do. And because of number two below I’m usually extremely hungry in the morning.
  2.  I absolutely cannot eat after 7 PM. I don’t know why that is is just my body and the way it processes food. Years ago, before I turned 30, I went on a extremely strict diet and I never ate after 5 or 6 PM. Thankfully my job allowed me to eat that early and the results I saw were very quick. Today, if I eat after 7 PM, I show a weight gain the next morning that can take 2 to 3 days to take off. It is quite depressing.
  3.  Don’t trust the calorie count increase allowances on fitness tracker apps. When I do my workouts, the fitness trackers add calories to the day that you’re allowed to consume. If I eat over 1200 cal a day, I will either not lose weight or show an increase in weight. And that’s with me burning over 1000 cal doing my water aerobic workout.
  4. I just have to add this one – being menopausal really sucks! When it comes to losing any kind of weight. I have never worked so hard in my life. And although I’m seeing great results from my workouts, like adding great muscle tone, it is extremely difficult for me to drop any kind of weight. So each pound that I lose I definitely celebrate.

I have learned a lot over the past year with the low-carb eating. It is definitely what I have to do to maintain a healthy lifestyle and hopefully drop more weight as I go along.

But really, I wish I knew all of this 25 years ago when I was younger. I wouldn’t of lost control and let myself go. That just kinda makes me sad but now I feel great. Better than I have in years. Great blood pressure, great oxygen levels, great resting heart beat, a ton of stamina and endurance, and I’m getting stronger every day. So for that I’m very grateful.
